The great Roman and Greek cultures had already discovered the benefits of grapes and wine and used them in their “wellness” and medicinal treatments: ampelotherapy (the therapeutic use of grapes, from the Greek word ampelos, meaning grapevine) and massages with grape seed oil have in fact been handed down from time immemorial.

Grapes, and red grapes especially, contain substances that combat the action of free radicals, which are responsible for skin ageing: grape skin contains polyphenols, flavonoids and anthocyanins; the fruit contains vitamins A, B1, B2 and C, malic acid, salicylic acid, tartaric acid, calcium, iron and manganese; the pips contain linoleic acid, starch, mineral salts and polyphenols.

These substances have powerful antioxidant properties and help regulate pH, deeply hydrating the skin and protecting it from environmental stress.
